Children are born to move. Between crawling and walking, they want to pull up, climb and test what their bodies can do. A Pikler triangle gives them a safe place to do exactly that, at home and at their own pace.
What it is. A foldable wooden triangle frame with rungs on the sides, inspired by the ideas of the Hungarian paediatrician Emmi Pikler. Many children also love the ramp that attaches to it and turns it into a slide.
Let your child lead. The main idea is free movement: we do not place a child on the triangle. We let them climb on their own, when they are ready, and they only go as high as they feel comfortable. This builds confidence, balance and coordination.
Many ways to play
- Pulling up to stand and cruising along the rungs
- Climbing up and over, then climbing down backwards
- Sliding down the ramp
- Using the ramp as a climbing wall
- Hiding under the frame with a blanket for a little den
Good to know. Place it on a soft mat or carpet, keep the area around it clear, and always stay nearby while your child plays. Because it folds flat, it is easy to store when you need the space.
